In 1970, Motown's all white rock band Rare Earth released this cover version of "Get Ready" as a single that hit #2 on the U.S. Cash Box Top 100, and #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song was written by singer/songwriter Smokey Robinson for The Temptations who recorder it in 1966. Rare Earth's "single" release is a scaled down version of their Rare Earth album version that the band often played at concerts, however, it has been debated whether the actual album was really recorded at a concert noting that the audience sounds throughout the song are repetitive and canned. The single version sold over a million U.S. copies and earned it Gold certification.
