Written and performed by (Knighted) Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, "Wild Night" is one his most popular songs, and also one of his few songs that had broad appeal since he favored more unconventional offerings which earned him a devoted following and critical praise from those willing to conquer his catalog. "Wild Night" is the opening track on his fifth studio album Tupelo Honey, and was released as a single in 1971 and reaching #28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Known as "Van the Man", Morrison rose to prominence in the mid-1960's as the lead singer of the Northern Irish R&B band Them, with whom he recorded the garage band classic "Gloria". Much of Morrison's music, however, is structured around the conventions of soul music, and R&B. He has received six Grammy Awards, the 1994 Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, and has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
