Remember the video of Dorothy Hamill running off the ice crying in Munich 1974 when the crowd wouldn't stop booing for the marks of the previous skater? Well this was that skater. Gerti Schanderl was a prodigious jumper for the era and had a wonderful personality on the ice. She thrived infornt of a home crowd, like here in Cologne for the 1973 Europeans and again in Munich a year later. Her double axels are amongst the finest of the era and if you examine her actual jump technique you will see she really doesn't rely on anything resembling a pulled in position in order to get rotation completed. It's reliant on height, speed and distance. Give this girl modern day jump technique and she surely would be able to do all triples through to triple axel.
