Stützpunktgruppe Mont St Frieux to the south of Boulogne-sur-Mer was one of the most fortified areas in the Pas de Calais region. Stutztpunkt Höhe 158 was part of it and defended the area with its 17cm K18 guns from formidable casemates. The beautiful area is private property.
The 17 cm K 18 heavy gun was a technically excellent long-range artillery piece for the German Army, with excellent range and a very effective shell. The gun's greatest weaknesses were that it was expensive to build and required careful maintenance. Its maximum range was 29.6 km.
