Minigames. Are they important? Maybe. Do we care? No. Our mission, which we choose to accept, is to make it through Mario Party 3's Story Mode without winning a single minigame. Well, other than the Stardust Battle at the end, that would be silly.
The core rules:
- I can't get 1st place or be declared a winner in standard minigames, duel minigames, or battle* minigames. I also can't be "one of multiple winners" (such as if multiple people score in Chip Shot Challenge), but draws are OK because they don't award coins. On top of that, I can't earn any items in item minigames, and I'm not allowed to earn coins via Game Guy minigames either.
*At the end, I considered bending this rule to allow 2nd-place finishes in Battle minigames as a way of making things more interesting. This consideration didn't end up mattering, though.
- In the event of a coin minigame (yellow text on the minigame roulette), I must play the game out without making any inputs. Whatever coins I get, I get, but I'm not allowed to influence the outcome. This rule is in place as a compromise between the spirit of the challenge and a potential way to exploit it. I want to prevent uncontrollable instantaneous death.
- If I win a minigame, despite my best efforts, *I must reset the board from Turn 1. No reloading*.
- Savescumming turns is not allowed either - it would make the challenge too easy.
On face, this challenge looks ridiculous. And it is. But that didn't stop me from taking it on!
--- SPOILER LINE --- DO NOT READ BEYOND THIS IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE ENDING SPOILED ---
Yeah so this challenge is ridiculously hard. So hard, in fact, that I'm not going to be giving it another shot as it's currently defined. Perhaps I'll figure out a way to make the challenge sliiiiightly easier without cutting against the spirit of it too much, but until then, this'll have to be it. All the same, I had a good time giving it my best shot.
