A new gear knob and leather look gaiter for £4. Easy to do. A common wear problem fixed. Here it is on the Land Rover Freelander1, but it applies to a lot of cars.
The replacement gear knob and gaiter was made for a VW Passat, as that one was available on eBay. It is the same shift pattern and number of gears as the Freelander so is suitable and gives it a more modern look, I think.
