This stream is brought to us by Joe's Computer Museum, as he bought the brand new LCD screen for this project. Please check out his wares for your vintage computers at jcm-1.com/shop

Two years ago, I bought a Gateway Profile 3 from the System Source Swap Meet, and more recently, bought a "for parts" Profile 3 on eBay (the place where I buy the things I later regret™) in the hopes of eventually making one working Profile 3 from the two.

After all, it's an early beige LCD All-In-One PC with grey cow spots where the front speakers are. It's very on-brand for Gateway, but the style came at a price: according to @IkesVintageTech, the Gateway Profile 3 at launch cost twice as much as an iMac G3. Yikes! (And that probably explains why Apple waited for the cost of LCDs to come down before releasing the iMac G4. But I digress...)

Anyways, after seeing that both LCD screens were damaged and hearing my hesitation in buying the new LCD option, Joe of Joe's Computer Museum stepped up to buy the new LCD screen (thanks Joe!) I believe his words were that "we're going to have a working Profile 3, or make smoke trying!"

Monday, we replaced 25 of the 45 electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard. Tonight, we're going to attempt to replace the remaining 20, along with a few on the inverter board for the backlight.

Will new caps fix the motherboard I didn't break? Will I have to solder on a tiny component to fix the working motherboard I did break? Will I have a working, blemish-free Profile 3 by the end of the evening? You'll have to watch to find out!
