A while ago, I bought a Mac Plus on Mercari, and it was lucky that it didn't sustain CRT damage in transit - that's what happens when the seller yeets the carrying bag in a box... but instead of returning it (which certainly would have destroyed it), I bought a replacement case for it that @DavesVintageApplTech restored. Before he returned it, he asked if he could put a "Ready for PowerPC Upgrade" sticker on it.
Bad news: no one ever made a PowerPC accelerator for the Mac Plus. Good news: 68030-based accelerators were available, and modern clones of those accelerators exist at reasonable pricing.
So I've bought a MiniPerformer+ : JCM Edition accelerator for my Mac Plus, and a 68030 processor from eBay (because Joe didn't have stock of them at the time of my order). I guess we better get testing...
But to make things a bit easier, I am first testing potential FPU oscillator values on my @MacEffects88 Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator for the Apple Macintosh SE before I commit them to the MiniPerformer+. It at least made sense to me to do it this way.
Tonight we will continue where we left off on Thursday.
Will the 68030 work? Will I find a 68882 to install in the accelerator? Will my mac Plus even work after sitting for a year? You'll have to watch to find out!
