My friends and I traveled up to Galesburg, IL on the last weekend in June. During Friday, we watched RRHMA 537 get used to respot the covered hopper BNSF was planning to use for the wheel change demo. 537 was on scene as this year's display engine. It made for a very popular guest. 537 was restored and is maintained by the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America (RRHMA).
Later in the afternoon, we boarded a school bus for a VIP tour of the Galesburg BNSF Yard. This included special access to the locomotive shop, and a chance to ride the elevator to the top floor of the yard tower, and see a freight train being humped into the classification bowl.
Several BNSF managers were on hand to answer questions and share stories. They had a wealth of knowledge, and were clearly passionate about what they do.
