In March, my lovely wife Judy and I celebrated our 20th anniversary. We wanted to check off a box on our bucket list: Travel by Sleeping Car!
Join us as we ride the rails from Effingham, IL to New York City, with stops in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
The main goal was to experience an overnight trip by train. Of course, we had to pick a final destination. We both love NYC so much, so that made the decision easy.
In Part 1 of this vlog, we cover riding the state funded regional train (Amtrak 390), tour downtown Chicago, have some local food, and board the Cardinal (Amtrak 50).
In Part 2 (coming soon!) we ride the Cardinal all the way to D.C. enjoying the sights, sounds, and food from the cafe along the way.
In Part 3, we will take a slight break from trains, and see the marvelous cherry blossoms D.C. is known for, tour George Washington's home, take a peak inside the Museum of American History (hey, they have trains in there!), ride the Metro (technically a train), and more!
In Part 4, we will get whisked up the Northeast Corridor on Amtrak Acela to Manhattan. Once there, we'll check out the many famous landmarks New York has to offer.
