In this video we can observe the melting and deposition of thermoplastic (PLA) in material extrusion additive manufacturing (Fused Filament Fabrication). The material is modelled as a non-Newtonian fluid with temperature and shear rate dependent viscosity. The model gives unique insight into melting and formation of beads. The material is heated due to contact with the liquefier wall. Learn more about FLOW-3D AM's modeling solutions at flow3d.com/am.
