FLOW-3D HYDRO provides several methods for representing grit and sediment particles in a simulation. In the first part of this video, a diversion structure model uses mass particles to simulate sediment behavior. In this design, the goal is for all coarse grit material to pass through the lower pipe and continue to the wastewater treatment plant. In the second part of the video, FLOW-3D HYDRO’s sediment transport model is used instead of individual mass particles. Both approaches produce similar trends in sediment behavior and can help engineers optimize the design to effectively capture sediment in the lower pipe.
