When a nappe stretches along the entire length of a rectangular weir, the air under the nappe can become entrained in the flow. When there is an insufficient source of air to replenish under the nappe, the nappe can attach to the downstream face of the weir. In this FLOW-3D HYDRO example, an unaerated nappe condition switches to an aerated condition when the ventilation tube is added to the nappe.
