The global health landscape has grown increasingly complex in recent decades, shaped by a proliferation of international organizations, financing mechanisms, and philanthropic initiatives. While disease-specific programs have generated important progress, fragmentation continues to undermine the efficiency and coherence of global health efforts—often sidelining national governments and diminishing collective impact. Against tightening international financing and rising global threats, momentum is building for more coordinated approaches anchored in country leadership and regional priorities, as reflected in the Lusaka Agenda.
This World Health Summit 2025 session – co-hosted by The Pandemic Fund – placed the country's leadership at the center of pandemic preparedness and response. The panel was moderated by Andrew Sollinger (Foreign Policy). The discussion explored how country-driven investments supported by The Pandemic Fund were strengthening resilience and complementing existing global health mechanisms.
