20 miles. Sunset to 2 A.M. No engine. No shortcuts. Just wind, strategy, and the dark.
What started as another evening race quickly turned into one of the most memorable sails I've ever experienced. As the sun disappeared below the horizon, we found ourselves navigating Lake Ray Hubbard under nothing but moonlight, navigation lights, and the glow of the instruments.
This is the RCYC Four Points Race, a nearly 20-mile endurance sail that tests patience, teamwork, and decision-making long after most boats have returned to the dock. Every wind shift matters. Every sail trim adjustment counts. And once darkness falls, the race takes on a completely different personality.
Come aboard Onassis as we chase the fleet through the Texas night, reading the wind, watching the instruments, and pushing every tenth of a knot until we finally crossed the finish line around 2:00 AM.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to race a sailboat through the darkness, this is one you won't want to miss.
⛵ Boat: Catalina 310 "Onassis"
