oday we're stepping inside Texas Gym in East Dallas, an old-school hardcore bodybuilding gym that's been part of the Dallas lifting scene since 1981.
No luxury locker rooms. No trendy lighting. No influencer setup. Just iron, old-school machines, decades of history and people who actually came to train.
I got to spend the day here with one of my longtime childhood friends, going back to the kind of workout we grew up loving — heavy weights, hard sets and absolutely nothing fancy.
What makes Texas Gym special, though, isn't just the equipment. It's the character of the place. Located on Oates Drive in East Dallas, Texas Gym has developed a reputation over the decades as a true no-frills bodybuilding and strength gym. Longtime owner Kim Jones is still there, and generations of Dallas lifters have stories connected to this little gym.
Walking through it almost feels like stepping into another era of bodybuilding — and that's exactly why I wanted to document it.
This wasn't about chasing numbers or trying to have the perfect workout. It was two old friends getting together, throwing some weight around and enjoying a piece of old-school Texas gym culture that somehow still exists in 2026.
If you love old-school bodybuilding, hardcore gyms, weightlifting, Texas Gym, Dallas fitness history, or classic gym culture, I think you're going to enjoy this one.
