We raced our Catalina 310 sailboat for 5 straight nights at the Dallas Race Week Regatta on Lake Ray Hubbard and brought home 2nd Place in C Fleet aboard ONASSIS.
This video is the full story of our week of sailboat racing — the starts, the tactics, the crew work, the mistakes, the wins, the lessons, and the grind of racing a cruising sailboat in a competitive fleet. Our boat, a Catalina 310, may be built as a comfortable cruiser, but this week she proved she can still line up, compete, and hold her own on the racecourse.
Dallas Race Week is one of the best sailing events in North Texas, bringing together sailors from around the area for multiple nights of racing, changing wind conditions, pursuit starts, mark roundings, upwind legs, downwind legs, close tactical calls, and plenty of dockside stories afterward. Over five nights, we battled the fleet, learned more about boat speed, sail trim, crew communication, and race strategy, and finished the week proud of what we accomplished.
Our boat is now named ONASSIS, and this was a special week for the crew. We came into the regatta wanting to sail hard, improve every night, and represent the boat well. After five nights of racing, we finished 2nd Place in C Fleet at the Dallas Race Week Regatta.
