FORGOTTEN VOICE

Continuing on with my tradition of writing about random topics, here's my latest song, "Forgotten Voice"
The song was inspired by reading an article about some of the letters written by the soldiers in the trenches during the First World War back to their loved ones.
I started writing and within a few minutes I had all the lyrics (not something that happens very often).
I can't possibly imagine the horrors, the homesickness and terrible conditions they must have faced but this song hopefully goes a little way to honouring those that served.
Musically, this is a step away from my usual style, keeping things relatively simple track-wise with acoustic, bass, drums and violin (actually I used the Erhu because I liked the sound a bit better).
All vocals and backing vocals are me (including the soldier's voice during the bridge). There are just 11 tracks in this project which is a far cry from my usual 20 - 30 tracks.
The song is in 6/8 timing which was fun to work with for a change. All recorded in GB, of course, on MacOS.
This is the first time I've used my new Rode NT-1 Mic and I was really happy with the results. Definitely a noticeable step up from my old budget USB mic.
I used the usual suite of stock standard plugins; EQ, compression, reverb, tape delay and a touch of chorus. Although I did use the Kazrog True Iron plugin on all tracks again.
I originally made a video for the song using some images of WW1 soldiers writing letters home but the content ended up being blocked so I went back to the drawing board (literally) and used the Procreate App on my iPad to sketch an image. Each brush stroke (or in the case of this picture, eraser stroke) is recorded and can then be played back as a video.
