RHYTHM OF THE LOVERS

From my 2019 album, Hiding In The Spotlight
This one is a bit different from my other songs because my usual array of acoustic and electric guitars don't feature at all. Instead, I tried to keep the song as simple as possible with just piano, bass guitar, drums, vocals and a little bit of organ at the end.
There were a couple of interesting things I tried within the mix that surprisingly turned out better than I had hoped.
First was to duplicate my lead vocal and apply the Spin Box guitar pedal plugin (found on MacOS). The Spin Box effect mimics a rotating speaker cabinet. I then balanced the two vocal tracks so it added a enough thickness without overpowering the vocal. I also alternated the spin speed so it's slow in the verse and fast in the chorus.
The other quite interesting effect I used can be heard on the organ during the final chorus. I added a third party plugin called A1 TriggerGate (Free download from A1Audio). I set it to add a nice triplet choppiness to the organ - similar to a tremolo but much more customisable.
The subject of the song is perhaps a bit on the unusual side.
I occasionally travel with my work and end up staying in various hotel rooms around the country.
In this song, the main protagonist is lying alone in a hotel one night listening to the couple in the room next door getting intimate. Hearing the 'rhythm of the lovers' reminds him of his own love and the time when they once did that.
Granted it's not your traditional love song (by any means) but I guess you work with whatever inspiration comes your way.
