Phew... this one took me a while! I had had the idea for it for many many months, and started working on it proper right after my last video. It's been kind of on and off due to some other life things going on, but I still put loads of work into this, partially due to it's length. I had some concerns about making a single song cover this long, but in the end, I decided it was worth it since I feel like nothing can be cut to improve on it, plus I've always wanted to do a longer arrangement like this, and take the song to so many different places. Although the song has some pretty strange melody timings and particular harmony sections, it sits on a Bb chord the whole way through, so I took the opportunity to find some alternate chords in a couple sections that fit well with those melodies/harmonies. I also changed the key from the original Bb to E, except the last section where I returned it to the original key.
I noted this song's weird meter (11/8) since I first played Mario Odyssey, and thought it would be fun to turn it into a song that has a classic prog feel to it. In particular, I really wanted to channel Dream Theater in this cover. There's a few spots where I can hear echoes of certain songs, like the beginning when the all-cymbals drum part comes in, reminds me of the beginning of The Count of Tuscany; the shared rhythm/bass/organ riff at 0:45 reminds me of Barstool Warrior, and the little open string lick at 4:39 with the low B underneath reminds me of Outcry.
I have a feeling some viewers will shy away from watching this one because of the length, but there's a special place in my heart for anyone who listens to the end! Regardless, I'm really happy with the way this turned out and wouldn't change anything :) (in particular I like the bass sound I achieved with this, being on the louder/present side but not drowning anything else out)

This one took quite a while to come out, and Im super glad I can finally share this one with everyone! This was a cover I did for Dwelling of Duels back in June, but the version I posted there is a bit different from this one, as it only features myself, but this one features the amazing Fuzz Pixels, and is arguably the better version as a result! :)
For this song, I thought it would be a fun idea to up the tempo quite a bit and give it more of a pop punk kind of vibe (although with more of the riffy metal style that I tend to do). Since Fuzz Pixels does a lot of Punk/Punk-adjacent covers, I thought it was the perfect song to feature him on, and he did a great job playing the melodies in his own unique way, not to mention the really tasty solo he came up with! Special thanks to him for joining me on this one :)
Make sure to check out his channel as well for some awesome video game covers done in a punk/post-hardcore/emo style!:

Youll probably notice that in some shots my hair is a tad longer, and thats because I filmed some of the video early in July, but Fuzz Pixels ending up being pretty busy when I asked him to participate (it was a bit last minute on my part lol) so I saved the rest for later so I could complete the Mother Brain video in time for 8-Bit Battleground. Its also been ridiculously hot here, so Im a bit unavoidably sweaty, and my hair is super untamed in said shots lol

Since Ive done a song from the first two games already, I figured I should do one from the third at some point! I also managed to get my friend CRGuitar to contribute some great lead playing and creepy death stares to this one, so extra special thanks to him!
This one was also an entry in Augusts Dwelling of Duels, where it won 8th place out of 37 entries!
For this one, I decided to turn it into a fun bluesy jam session of sorts, since the original is just a 25-second 12-bar blue that repeats. I also covered the slower version that plays in Blues Beach Hut, as well as the faster version that plays once Blue receives his birthday gift! I had a lot of fun playing around with the genre of this one, all while still retaining the bluesy feel.
