Here we have my entry from March's Dwelling of Duels contest finally! I had waited a bit to try and get a proper video performance for this one, but not everyone has an ideal video setup, so I figured I'd post it anyways and maybe get a music video later on. In any case, it's finally here!!
I've been excited to share this one for a while. It was the biggest collab I've arranged so far, and the first time I ever had someone play real drums on one of my tracks! (or drums in general, I've only ever done my own programmed drums before). Mixing real drums for the first time consumed a lot of my time an energy that month, and I definitely lost sleep over it, but it turned out really well I think! I did some minor touchups on the mix before posting it here, but otherwise it's mostly the same as the contest version.
Big BIG thanks to everyone who was a part of this one, it's really quite special! Roque aka @Roqdrummer killed it with his drum parts, and I even re-recorded my bass/rhythm tracks to match what he sent back afterwards. The quiet section in the middle originally didn't have many drums in the arrangement, but he added some light and tasteful stuff there which I loved! Shoutouts to Justin Wilbanks from @KOTRmetal who recorded Roque's drums and edited the tracks prior to sending them out!
I got both @streifig from the band @MarshallArt as well as my friend @NivanSharma to play some lead guitar and other supporting guitar parts on this; it's pretty stacked with guitars considering I also have some on here, but the thick arrangement works pretty well imo! Their different sounds/styles compliment each other and the rest of the performers really well :) streifig's epic reverby lead part, and Nivan's crazy triplet run (doubled by Roque on the drums!) are my favourite parts from them.
And last but not least, I got @jnWake to lay down key parts on this! I sent out Electric Piano and Lead Synth parts to him, but he also sent out an organ part as a bonus and said I didn't have to use it, but I loved it naturally so it stayed!
Arrangement-wise, I went for something that started with the latter section of the original song, before coming in full force with the opening section. Otherwise, it more or less follows the original, but with the last two sections having an additional repetition. It's also a half-step lower from the original! That just kinda happened naturally, as I was noodling on guitar and came up with part of the intro progression in a different key. It's actually slightly based on a progression in one of my band's songs that I always noted as having a Chrono Trigger-y progression, so it kinda came full circle that way haha.
There's also two sneaky references to other Chrono music... can you spot them? 😁

Since Ive done a song from the first two games already, I figured I should do one from the third at some point! I also managed to get my friend CRGuitar to contribute some great lead playing and creepy death stares to this one, so extra special thanks to him!
This one was also an entry in Augusts Dwelling of Duels, where it won 8th place out of 37 entries!
For this one, I decided to turn it into a fun bluesy jam session of sorts, since the original is just a 25-second 12-bar blue that repeats. I also covered the slower version that plays in Blues Beach Hut, as well as the faster version that plays once Blue receives his birthday gift! I had a lot of fun playing around with the genre of this one, all while still retaining the bluesy feel.
