If you forgot your iphone password, you will need to restore your iphone. This can lead to you losing your data if you didn’t do a backup. Your iPhone typically backs up to iCloud automatically once a day, so you should be good.
First, connect the iphone to your computer. I will show you the process for both windows and macOS.
After connecting your iphone via USB, you need to put the phone in DFU mode. Depending on your iphone model, the button combination for this is different, But to simplify it, if you have a physical home button, then you need to hold the power button and the home button at the same time, if you don’t have a home button, then hold down volume down and the power key, and if you have a touch sensitive button, but not a physical button, like this iphone 7, then try volume down and the power button.
The apple logo will appear. Keep holding the buttons until this screen appears.
Now, if you are using MacOS, in your Finder app, your iphone will appear.
If you are using Windows, you need to download iTunes. After installing iTunes, open it and then try to enter DFU mode on your iphone.
Now on both Windows and Mac what you need to do is to select it, a prompt should appear that there is a problem with the iphone, or when selecting it, an option to restore will appear. Press restore. And let the computer do its thing. It will take some time. But after it finishes all the downloads and restarts (it might also ask you to enter DFU again), you will get to this menu, where it says that the iphone is locked to the user.
From here, follow the onscreen instructions and login with your Apple ID acccount. Follow the onscreen instructions again and it will prompt you to choose a backup. After doing the backup and following the other onscreen instructions, the iphone should be working fine, with the new password it will ask you to set.
