The skies above Pyongyang were lit up on Tuesday evening (April 15), with a huge fireworks display to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of North Korea's founder Kim Il Sung.
North Korea's state-run television KRT showed thousands of people watching the 20-minute-long display.
The event was broadcast live on KRT from 2000 local time (1100GMT) - but the young leader Kim Jong-un was not seen attending.
KRT also showed thousands of people, dressed in brightly coloured traditional costumes, dancing to celebrate Kim's birthday at a square in Pyongyang.
April 15 is called the "Day of Sun" and is a national holiday in North Korea.
Kim Il Sung led his country from its founding in 1948, through the 1950-53 Korean War until he died in 1994, when his son Kim Jong Il, took over.
