Houston firefighters responded to a single-story house fire on Glenhurst Drive around 1:06 a.m. on May 5, 2026, finding heavy smoke and flames coming from the home upon arrival. Crews ventilated the structure due to pressurized smoke and encountered delays entering because of window bars. While firefighters were cutting a ventilation hole in the roof, part of the roof collapsed and a firefighter fell through into the seat of the fire, prompting a second alarm and mayday call. Crews quickly located the firefighter, extinguished the flames around him, and safely rescued him without injury. No civilians were hurt, and firefighters did not find anyone inside the home. A family with young children was seen outside the residence as crews extinguished the fire. The cause remains under investigation by HFD.
