Lowdown on the restrictions of this challenge:

Ability Nodes Only (ANO) - You can only activate ability nodes, no raising characters' stats in anyway.
Own Sphere Grid (OSG) - Each character may not leave their own section of the sphere grid. Note that these rules combined mean you can still use key spheres to e.g. teach Lulu Doublecast, Yuna Auto-Life etc.
No Summons (NS) - Self-explanatory, Aeons are OP meatshields
No Overdrives (NO) - Mainly for getting rid of Rikku's Mix, which is ludicrously OP
No Items (NI) - No using items, in or out of battle. Chakra Drops, Revival Beads, Megido Rocks, all those classic FF staples are banned (you can still customize equipment though)

Initial equipment:

Tidus: (First Strike) + (HP +5%, SOS Haste, Stoneproof)
Wakka: (Strength +10%) + (HP +10%, SOS Haste, Stoneproof)
Auron: (Piercing, Strength +5%, Evade & Counter) + (HP +5%, SOS Haste, Stoneproof)
Lulu: (Magic +10%) + (HP +5%, SOS Haste)
Kimahri (Piercing, Sensor, Strength +10%) + (SOS Regen)
Rikku: (Strength +5%, Magic +5%) + (HP +10%, HP +5%)

I have some nice new toys here. Auron has the incredibly broken Evade & Counter ability, which means most physical attacks will never connect on him again. I also spent some time grinding so Lulu would learn Flare, although she only has enough MP to use it once at the moment.

The fight itself is long, although still nowhere near as drawn out as it could've been. To pull this method off you need 3 characters with SOS Haste + Stoneproof armours to prevent the Petrify/Slow effects of Stone Gaze. You need to start by inflicting Slow - it only has a 50% success rate against him, but if it misses you can switch in Rikku and try one last time with Copycat. His basic pattern when up close is Attack/Stone Gaze twice, Inhale, then Poison Breath. You need to manipulate the ship to avoid his damaging moves - pull back when he inhales, let him waste Poison Breath and then go back in close before he starts using ranged attacks.

The tricky part comes towards the end. Under normal circumstances Evrae will counter with Haste when you knock his HP under 10,667, which will result in a rather swift game over. However, if you hit him below this threshold with a counterattack, he won't respond as long as you never target him with ANY moves again. From this point on he also stops using Stone Gaze, so you can actually counterattack him to death... but this would've taken about 20 minutes longer. Instead, pull back, unleash a round of missiles - he will do nothing in response to this. Hit him with a second, and this time he'll counter with a rather pathetic AoE move. This should leave him with 6,000 HP at most, and from here you should have just enough time to finish him off with Flare, Copycat and physical attacks/counters before he kills you with Poison Breath.
