Eat, Sleep, Debilitate, Repeat
Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: romhacking.net/hacks/3299
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 5500 → 6900
- Tarukaja → Debilitate
- Sukukaja → Megido
This is the first fight in a while that plays substantially differently to its vanilla counterpart, and it sure is something. His old buff script is replaced with a Debilitate + Rakukaja + Megido combo that makes our options very limited. Since he follows this pattern 90% of the time we have to follow a similarly predictable pattern of healing, buffing our defence, debuffing his defence and damaging him to get rid of the replicants. Since we still don't have access to Dekunda we need backup healers and damage dealers to switch in each round (it's also important that the backups have similar agility stats to what they're switching with so it doesn't affect the turn order). I open with double Debilitate + Rakukaja, so from here on I'm generally taking Megido at +0 defence with Ongyo-Ki at -2 atk. This reduces the damage enough that I can then switch healers and fully heal the entire party. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam.
The problem here is that it doesn't leave any spare actions as long as he keeps spamming the Dragon Eye script, so any time we have to heal MP the only option is to skip Rakunda and have his defence rise a level for an indeterminate amount of time. For this reason I found it beneficial to farm a few Great Chakras (Diamonds can be gotten with Lucky Find and traded into Rag's Jewellery for these, or you can win them from the shop with 10 Lucky Tickets). Occasionally he will decide to forgo Dragon Eye for some basic attacks, and this is your chance to drop his defence back to -2 if necessary or otherwise launch an assault. Oh, and of course you should also throw a Tetraja Stone when you get a chance to protect Demi from Mudoon. I actually derped and forgot to re-apply it after he got hit with Evil Gaze, but oh well.
I wasn't intending to fuse another Uzume yet and initially tried using Dis as one of the mages, but 5 minutes into the attempt she whiffed an Agilao and it was all over. The patch notes do say that the luck stat has a bigger effect on spell accuracy now, so it's good to see that in action. Uzume and Kikuri-Hime both seemed to have enough luck to never miss at least.
