-Midgar Escape-
First thing we have to do is carefully equip Cloud so that he can survive the battle with Rufus; one wrong move means going back through the Gunners fight. We give him Bolt+Elemental to halve the damage of Nation's magic and slap Poison & Restore in there too. The plan is to poison Rufus with Bio and then defend our way through the fight, using Cross Slash to paralyse Nation wherever possible as Bolt is the strongest attack we have to deal with. Not the most dramatic method, but it's safe.
Then, after a tense solo dash to the save point, it's time for Motorball. We can arrive at this fight in reasonably good HP using the Flailing Wildly At Red Bikes method which is important as things will be tight in the opening.
To start, Motorball hits us with Deadly Wheel before opening with Sword Arm either once or twice. As this is a back attack, we won't get the first turn so we need to hope for only one Sword Arm so that Barret isn't KO'd; this could potentially leave us on the back-foot if we can't get MBarrier up before Twinburner.
Once Sword Arm is gone, we heal up and put on some buffs. Rolling Fire is the major danger of this fight, so a Lunar Curtain is used to mitigate both this and Twin Burner. Barret is going to Defend and Cover the Sword Arms used after Rolling Fire but in the meantime we're free to throw as many Bolt Plumes as we can.
Thanks to Motorball's low MDef, the Plumes inflict roughly 1300 damage per hit. Even so, we need to throw 8 of the things to bring down his colossal 10,000HP. There is another possibility for getting through this fight using Ghost Hands to drain out Motorball's HP, preventing him from using Rolling Fire, but given the rarity of these items it might be worth saving them for later.
And that's it! Now we're at large in the big ol' world, with lots of things to kill and damage to be done.
