The Christmas Steam Specials are well underway and as usual for this time of year the LMS Black Fives are the locos of choice. The two midweek excursions in question were the Chatsworth Christmas Sparkle Express, running with 45231 'Sherwood Forester' on a Saphos Trains special from Carnforth to Chesterfield, which was steam hauled from Crewe only. The windy weather contiuned from the weekend as we see the Black Five strutting its stuff on the West Coast Mainline at Tamworth and Dordon. I did plan to get a return shot in the dark but the weather decided to turn it up a notch and I was tucked up in a warm bed with zero intent on moving !
A day later and we were back out for Ian Riley's Black Five 44871. The locomotive is seen hauling the Oxford Christmas Market Express and the loco would start off from Southend heading to Oxford via the Chilterns. The weather was much improved and it was finally nice to be able to actually enjoy the waiting around and the filming aspect of what our hobby entails, as its been rather brutal recently with these two named storms and bitter winds accompanied by bands of consistent rain ! The Black Five is seen at speed through Saunderton and then briefly at Princes Risborough while stopping to allow other services to pass.
