Tucked up against the Pacific Ocean and the towering Redwoods that give the park its name, Fern Canyon is a lush UNESCO World Heritage Site worthy of its short stroll.
The canyon, with walls climbing 50' above the slowly meandering creek (unless you visit in the winter when storms make the walk more treacherous) and covered in green ferns, is a pleasant and peaceful walk.
There is a permit system in place from May until September to keep the crowds to a minimum and you can expect to encounter a few other hikers on this .7 mile loop.
Here now is calm and people-free journey up this short natural marvel.
