Why do I love filming in 8K when I don't plan on editing actual 8K videos?

Zoomability!

Working on a 4K timeline, an 8K video can be zoomed in 200% with no loss of quality, making it a useful tool especially for wildlife. That 200mm lens you are using will effectively become a 400mm tool.

In this video I give examples of 200%-600% zooms of the original footage on a 4K timeline. There are a few downsides I'll explain as well.

NOTE: The clips in this video were filmed in 8K with IPB compression on a Canon R5 and RF 100-500mm L lens. Not All-I and not RAW. As a matter of fact, they are straight out the camera with no color editing, making life a lot easier.
