Case Type: Trucking: Tow Truck Driver Struck by Semi Truck
Description: A tow truck driver was loading a broken down vehicle onto his flatbed, when he was struck and killed by a passing semi tractor trailer.
Visualizations Produced:
Based on accident photos, Fearless Eye built an overhead view exhibit showing the tow truck's parked position along the shoulder of the roadway, with the left front wheel on the fog or lane line, leaving the driver little room to move or maneuver when he saw the semi coming.
Two additional exhibits were then created illustrating that if the tow truck driver had either pulled his truck fully into the center of the shoulder (Avoidance Tactic 1), or as far as possible onto the shoulder very near the guardrail (Avoidance Tactic 2), he would have given himself enough space to have avoided the collision.
