These are the guys that threatened me last week when I was in my garden because they thought i was filming them. Actually I was on the phone to a friend talking about Gateway Housing Association. I was also trying to fix the bird-feeder when Mr Hart and two others saw me and came up to my garden wall to hurl abuse at me. This was reported to the police and was witnessed by an independent witness.
According to the Stepney SNT (Safer Neighbourhood Team) police Sergeant the workers at this scrap dealership stated they felt intimidated by being filmed in their yard. All my films are of the public highway and what they do there - not their private yard. Anyhow this is a load of rubbish as they are the ones doing the intimidating.
I was told the Transport Police checked their site & books and found nothing wrong. If that is so did they find the vehicle registration numbers of the Brewsters, Bywaters, Hunts and other major waste company vehicles that have illegally delivered to this yard in the book they have to keep to record such details? No must be the answer. Over the years I have contacted all these companies and asked them if their vehicles are suppose to be trading with York Scrap. The answer from these companies is always no. These companies have no contract or trading relationship with this dealer and any trading their drivers do is theft and therefore illegal.
Further to this I asked the SNT sergeant had there been any checks made on the fork-lift truck to see if it was registered and insured for use on the Public Highway as the law required. I said one of my major concerns regarded the fact that pavements (sidewalks) were constantly being blocked by vehicles and skips often to the point where people were forced into the roadway to get by the obstructions. This is an offence in law and is called 'obstructing the public highway'. Public highway legally includes pavements.
Finally I am deeply concerned regarding the use of vehicles, including the unregistered forklift truck, in contravention of the one way traffic regulations that exist on this road. On the 28th of July 2011 at 15.00hrs one of the workers of this establishment drove the unregistered and uninsured forklift truck over 70 yards the wrong way down this one-way street. This behaviour is repeated many times each day and constitutes a breach of the Highway Code which is technically a criminal offence as well as very dangerous behaviour.
