#65. Q: What’s the rule for shirt monograms in men’s style?
Don’t put monograms of your initials on your shirt to show off that it is custom made. It is an affectation we don’t need. Make ourselves memorable by how we put ourselves together in how we dress professionally, by what we do and what comes out of our mouths.
Don’t wear overly flamboyant suit linings for business. Showing a crazy lining pattern in a work context will not be helping your professional image. For casual occasions, it will be fine to let your inner “cool meister” run rampant.

I knew the Mayor of London would pull a big crowd at the Chamber networking event , so I wanted to stand out in the crowd and look the most credible guy in the room.
Suit: Custom grey Bird's Eye suit, double pleats, notch lapels, Barchetta breast pocket, 35mm double cuffs, flap pockets, side vents.
Shirt: Custom Bengal striped shirt in the Winchester style with white collar and white English Cuffs. Abbeyhorn Holme 1749 horn collars stays from Kirby Allison Dallas 2007
Tie: Chanel Paris navy tie in a Windsor knot. The tie had the name Chanel written across it so the horizontal line contrasted with the vertical blue Bengal stripe in the shirt.
Socks: Navy over the calf socks

Cufflinks: Dark blue glass cufflinks to pick up the navy tie
Pocket Square: Diroma Lindon silk dark blue pocketsquare to create a contrast with the grey suit and pick up the navy tie. Stabiliser from Kuska Fabrics Kyoto 1936.
Badge: Dale Carnegie New York 1912, silver corporate badge
Pen: Mont Blanc Hamburg 1906
Card Holder: Lanvin Paris 1889
Watch: Vintage gold 3000.2.M model Gucci Firenze 1921 with a very simple black dial. The burgundy alligator strap is able to be swapped out for my black Alligator strap when I need to do so, thanks to the Jean Rousseau Paris 1954 customisation.
Fragrance: Floris London 1890 Special #127 – Churchill’s favourite
👞 High Shine Shoes: The high shine shoes were dark brown, Vergano calf, Camina Mallorca 1954, toe cap Oxfords with a swan neck design, the Rain last, JR Redenbach soles.
Intention outcomes: As usual, most of the guys were very casually dressed and I could easily stand out. I also chose the light grey suit to be different form all the navy blue jackets.
