My Point of View: In business, credibility can be created before competence is tested. We can sell them on trusting us by engineering the first impressions we want, so let's be intentional and let's be sharp.
🎩 Classic Menswear Conventions – Know the Rule to Break the Rule
#23. Q: What’s the rule for belt and shoe colours in men’s style?
If you wear belts, then the colour must match the shoe. Never wear a brown belt with black shoes and vice versa. If you are wearing burgundy shoes, then you need a burgundy belt and not a brown one. It is one of the most basic rules which many men get wrong.
👔 The 4 Vs of Executive Presence: Visual, Vocal, Verbal, Value
🎯 Who am I meeting and what impression do I want to create:
Lunch with Dan Slater founder of the Delphi Network, at Ruby Jacks in Akasaka
Podcast interview with Thomas Fraessle, Representative Director ITKB Japan in Shiba for Japan's Top Business Interviews.
AGM for the British Chamber in Minami-Aoyama
I wanted an outfit that worked for the interview and the AGM, and as the season is changing, I went for a light grey suit with a strong pink tie to stand out at the AGM.
Suit: Brioni Roma 1945 grey Prince of Wales check with a light blue window pane pattern three roll on two three button suit, single pleats, notch lapels, Barchetta breast pocket, 35mm double cuffs, flap pockets, side vents. The suit has a very luxurious silky feel and a great hand.
Shirt: Abelard Melbourne 1922 blue shirt with English Cuffs. The blue shirt pociks up the blue in the window pane pattern, which is a very light blue. Abbeyhorn Holme 1749 horn collars stays from Kirby Allison Dallas 2007
Tie: TM Lewin London 1898 pink tie in a Windsor knot
Socks: Grey over the calf socks
✨ Personal Flair
Cufflinks: Hawson Huizhou 2017 dark pink cufflinks.
Pocket Square: Jim Thompson Bangkok 1948 cotton pocketsquare with pink tips in a reverse puff to pick up the tie. Stabiliser from Kuska Fabrics Kyoto 1936.
Badge: Dale Carnegie New York 1912, silver corporate badge
Pen: Mont Blanc Hamburg 1906
Card Holder: Lanvin Paris 1889
Watch: Vintage gold 24m Cartier Paris 1847 Tank Francaise with a black nubuck alligator strap
Fragrance: Acqua di Gio Georgio Armani Milano 1996.
👞 High Shine Shoes: Pollini San Mauro Pascoli 1953 Derbys with broguering on the toe cap.
Intention outcomes: Navy suits are still the main colour choice for the men there and so my light grey suit and pink tie helped me to stand out in the crush.
