With the Sole Survivor now familiar with the Institute's division heads as well as Father (Shaun) himself, he is requested to attend a meeting between members of the Directorate.
Out of all the Institute’s divisions including Synth Retention Bureau (SRB), BioScience, Advanced Systems and Facilities, Robotics remains the most interesting. Inside the Robotics laboratory, Institute scientists are responsible for Generation 3 Synth construction, development and maintenance. This process has been completely automated by machines and is extraordinary to observe.
Unlike Gen-1 and Gen-2, Generation 3 Synths represent the pinnacle of technology, being virtually indistinguishable from natural-born humans down to the cellular level. They are designed to be truly sapient. Each Gen-3 synth is built from lab-grown bones, muscles and other tissues that are mechanically assembled and brought to life in the Robotics lab, and are "born" with bodies and mental faculties of full-grown adult humans. Though entirely biological, each Gen-3 synth contains a neurological implant inside their brain allowing them to be "programmed" and manipulated via voice command. This implant cannot be detected nor removed without killing the synth.
After completing this mission, the Courser X6-88 is available as a companion. He was absent from wandering around the Institute, but instead was located at Nordhagen Beach, quietly standing in front of a derelict boat.
