FAKE MUSIC PRODUCERS VS REAL MUSIC PRODUCTION
What happens when music production becomes more about producing content than producing records?
In this 4-hour oO5 Dynasty live discussion, I break down my perspective on modern music production and why I use the phrase Fake Musical Producers.
This is not about saying everyone using an MPC, making beats, reviewing gear or creating tutorials is fake. The larger question is what happens when gear culture, product marketing and content creation begin replacing the complete process of producing music.
We discuss music producers vs beatmakers, MPC culture, Akai MPC workflows, recording, tracking, mixing, studio sessions, audio engineering, analog signal chains, sampling, music gear marketing, producer roles, creativity, Copy and Clone Generation and Ghost Wav.
One of the central ideas is that making a beat and producing a record are not necessarily the same thing.
A producer can help develop the song concept, guide the artist, shape performances, make arrangement decisions, communicate with engineers, solve studio problems and help move a record toward completion without personally programming every drum or playing every instrument.
The live chat made this conversation even deeper. People challenged my arguments and brought up MPC workflows, signal levels, analog equipment, sampling, recording techniques and different approaches to production.
Later in the stream I explain the origins of Ghost Wav, also known as Cinematic Air-Hop, and my approach to cinematic, atmospheric, groove-driven music designed to flow.
Different producers come from different musical backgrounds, eras and workflows. The goal is not for everyone to work like me. Understand the tools, develop experience, solve problems, collaborate and find your own way of creating music.
