In this patch I’m using multiple envelope followers all monitoring the same source (my trumpet), but with varying sensitivities, decays times, and pulse responses. This is a simple but really interesting way to derive multiple control signals from a single source, which you can then use to trigger and / or modulate different voices within the synth.
I personally love how this technique kind of blurs the interaction between the trumpet and synth, and instead of a super clear one-directional “action-result” relationship, we end up with overlapping tones and colliding gestures, and it becomes tricky at times to know who is leading and who is following.
