The term-limits battle between Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and the Democrats in the County Legislature has concluded in an agreement between the parties involved.
On Friday, Executive McMahon said the legislature has agreed to his proposal to have voters decide on the issue this election cycle.
Voters will choose between separate 12-year and 16-year term limit proposals for county executive and county comptroller. Specifically, that's three four-year terms or four four-year terms. It will be on the ballot during the 2026 General Election on Nov. 3.
The proposal that receives the majority support will become the law. If both do, the one with the most yes votes becomes law. If neither receives the majority of support, they will not become law. Voters will be given yes and no options.
