This extraordinary contraption has scuttled into The Evelyn Glennie Collection. The video linked below gives a short flavour of the many sound possibilities that can be brought forth from the Marvin, created by @morfbeats678. This improvised demonstration shows what a valuable addition this metallic creature will be to my sound forge.

Video description: Evelyn is sat on the floor, surrounded by percussion instruments, with the Marvin, created by Morfbeats, positioned in front of her. She talks about the Marvin, and turns it around to show it to us. The transcript is included below. The Marvin is a sculptural percussive instrument, with a large hollowed almost-squashed side-ways cone of metal known as the bell, with the larger end open, to which various springs of various shapes and sizes are attached. It sits on its own built-in stand, which includes some curved bars which can be bowed. Evelyn then uses a range of mallets, superballs and a bass bow to play the Marvin, drawing out some eerie metallic wailing sounds, sharp, staccato beats and bell-like chimes.

Transcript: Well, this extraordinary contraption is called a Marvin, made by a company called Morfbeats and they make extraordinary sculptural beautiful sound creations. And so this is - I'll just turn it round so that you can see - it's like a living thing.
A couple of springs there, we have four springs running across here and then these wonderful different size springs sticking upwards.
It's just arrived into The [Evelyn Glennie] Collection here, so I am just going to have a little bit of a an exploration. But even just using your bare hands, it's incredibly responsive.
Just moving it already, you can see sound happening, you know, even if it's not heard or felt. It really does feel as though you're you're manipulating something that is very much alive!
So this is just a tiny little demonstration.
