Asar Imhotep | Etymology of Deshret: NOT the red land @AsarImhotep | Uploaded 7 months ago | Updated May 12 2024
Join me on Nia (Thursday) September 21st at 1PM Eastern time at the Mbongi as we discuss the true etymology of the word dSr.t (desheret) "desert" in the ancient Egyptian language. For a long time, this word has been interpreted to mean "the red land" by Egyptologists. But a careful examination of the Egyptian language, and confirmed by related languages, demonstrates that this term derives from a root meaning "empty" and "barren." The fact that there is a word dSr "red" in the language, does not mean dSr.t "desert" means red land; these can be homographs. Much of this is discussed in the new book, but you will get a preview of the arguments on this date. So please bookmark your calendars, like, and share this link with friends and colleagues.
