• Description:
In this video I go over the process of how to assign an easy-to-remember web address (http://esp8266-01.local) to your ESP8266 using Multicast DNS (mDNS). I go, step-by-step, over the process of how to write code in the Arduino IDE for assigning the web address to a web server running on the ESP8266.
One of the most common tasks when using the ESP8266 is setting it up as a device that connects to a network and responds to traffic on it (i.e., a web server). Typically you use the ESP8266's IP address to access the server, however, it's easier to remember a name than a set of numbers. Though several code samples exist already, I wanted to explain in detail what you need from start to finish.
On Windows, please make sure you install either iTunes or Bonjour so that your computer can see the ESP8266 over the Wi-Fi network (it uses mDNS):
