A 4 wire stepper is only used as bipolar.
A 5 wire stepper is only used as unipolar. A 6 wire stepper may be used as bipolar or unipolar.
A 8 wire stepper may be used as 4 phase unipolar 2 phase series bipolar or 2 phase parallel bipolar.
This stepper motor is in the Teac Floppy Drive unit
But it has 5 pins (not 4 pins)
The number of coils is like 4 pins with 8 coil stepper motor
How to change a 5 pin stepper motor to 4 pins
So that it can be programmed with MCU ESP32 or Arduino.
00:08 Stepper Motor Floppy Drive 5.25 inches
When dismantling the warehouse, there were several damaged computer components
Even 3 Teac brand floppy drives
This device was used in the 90s, before being replaced with Disc
After seeing its shape, on the head drive
Floppy drive uses a stepper motor
The difference is, from 2 models.
6 pin stepper motor and 5 pin stepper.
Called unipolar stepper motor
Can a 5 pin stepper motor be used like today's modern stepper motors.
Just look inside
If there are 8 coils or multiples of 4.
It is possible to change it to a bipolar stepper motor
only take 4 connectors for power
Called pins A1 A2 and B1 B2.
00:36 8 wires 8 coils
To make sure the Floppy Driver stepper motor contains 8 coils
At least it must be opened and see the inside of the stepper motor coil
And unravel the cable again, determine for pins A1 A2 and B1 B2.
00:43 release stepper motor from floppy drive
Open back cover and release board pin Stepper motor
01:28 Where the pins A1 A2 and B1 B2
Open 8 wire (actually 16 connections from 8 coils)
01:43 Check 8 wire and group to 4 pins
Find connections with the same ohms, then combine from 8 wires into 4 wires
To determine the coil group, you can see the cable path to each coil.
03:15 Now final 8 wires to 4 pin
03:43 Arrange the cables later connected to MCU pin
03:50 From Left A1, B1, A2, B2
03:60 Now Stepper Motor 5 pin work on 4 pin stepper driver
04:35 Stepper motor, L298N Stepper driver, ESP32 MCU
04:59 I myself forgot when I used this 5.25 inch Floppy drive
05:10 maybe on a computer in the 1990s
05:20 before using a 3.5 inch floppy drive
05:30 great this stepper motor still works smoothly
