Even in his debut opera VIOLANTA, the young Erich Wolfgang Korngold draws on the late Romantic opera sound of Giacomo Puccini and Richard Strauss – evocative and sensual, feverish and multifaceted, he tells a Venetian tale of revenge set in the Renaissance, which is noticeably influenced by Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis and Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy of life.

David Hermann, Jo Schramm and Sybille Wallum delve deep into the seething inner self of our title heroine with their coolly analytical new production of this operatic rarity – tonight and on 4, 6 and 13 February 2026.
