In September2019 I was fortunate to be invited by the Signalman to spend a day with him in the Ongar signal box. The sole locomotive in charge that day was Ex GWR 4-6-0 number 4953, Pitchford Hall resplendent in BR lined black livery after recently returning from an extensive overhaul.
The EOR was until 1994 the outer eastern extremity of the Central Line on the London Transport tube network. It is now an active heritage railway with both steam and diesel motive power.
My grateful thanks to Signalman John Stratton for inviting me to spend the day with him in the signal box and to the Epping Ongar Railway for allowing this to happen.
