This video has been digitised from a reel of Standard 8 film, I do not know anything about the film-maker. The film has a thin magnetic strip indication a soundtrack but because I do not possess a Standard 8 sound projector, they are quite rare, this upload is silent.
The film was shot near the north end of Blackfriars Bridge opposite Unilever House. The parade turns from Victoria Embankment, under the railway bridge leading into Blackfriars station and onward onto Queen Victoria Street.
The Lord Mayor's Show is one of the best-known annual events in London as well as one of the longest-established, dating back to the 16th century. A new lord mayor is appointed every year, and the public parade that takes place as his or her inauguration ceremony reflects that this was once one of the most prominent offices in England.
