Well, this is disappointing. Epic Universe has officially removed a bunch of their in-ground lighting after dealing with constant maintenance issues, and honestly, this feels like we're watching the same exact story play out that we saw with EPCOT's World Celebration.
These modern theme parks keep trying to do these amazing ground lighting effects, but they just can't seem to make them work long-term. The lights look incredible when they're functioning, but between weather, foot traffic, and who knows what else, they keep breaking down. And instead of figuring out a better solution, parks are just... giving up and removing them entirely.
I really hope this isn't the permanent fix for Epic Universe. These lighting elements add so much atmosphere and magic to the experience, especially at night. But I get it from an operational standpoint - if you're constantly having to repair or replace these systems, it becomes a maintenance nightmare.
The thing that bugs me is that this seems to be a widespread problem in the industry right now. Parks are designing these beautiful lighting packages, but the technology or installation methods just aren't holding up to real-world conditions. There's got to be a better way to do this.
