Disney just rolled out facial recognition technology at Disneyland's park entrances, and honestly, I have mixed feelings about this whole thing. Yes, it might make getting into the parks faster and more convenient, but we need to talk about what this really means for your privacy.
The system works by scanning your face when you enter the park and matching it to your ticket or Magic Key. Disney says it's all about improving the guest experience and security, but here's what's bothering me: what happens to all that biometric data? Where does it go? How long do they keep it? And most importantly, what happens if there's a data breach?
We've seen so many companies get hacked over the years, and biometric data is different from your email or credit card info. You can change your password or get a new credit card, but you can't change your face. Once that data is out there, it's out there forever.
Don't get me wrong, I love Disney and I'm always excited about new technology that could make the park experience better. But this feels like something we should all be paying attention to and asking questions about. The convenience factor is definitely appealing, especially during busy seasons when those entrance lines get crazy long.
