I worked as an English Teacher for two years, currently taking a break from that, and I taught Limericks to 12 year olds. By far the hardest part of Limericks is capturing the sing-song melody of the poetic meter. A limerick should also have 5 lines, a fixed rhyming scheme (AABBA), and be humourous.
Bono, singer and lyricist with the pop/rock band u2, wrote a limerick for the democratic convention held in March to address the war in Ukraine.
Without intending to make light of that situation, I grade that limerick like it's a 12 year old's homework. Will he pass or be consigned to the dunce's corner?
