Learn about the High’s new exhibition, André Kertész: Postcards from Paris, from curator Elizabeth Siegel. This exhibition is the first to bring together Kertész’s rare carte postale prints. These now iconic works offer new insight into his early, experimental years and reveal the importance of Paris as a vibrant meeting ground for international artists, who drew inspiration from each other to create new, modern ways of seeing and representing the world.
Elizabeth Siegel has been a curator at the Art Institute of Chicago since 2001. Her work examines the practices, reception, and material histories of photography, with a focus on photography before 1970. Her current exhibition, André Kertész: Postcards from Paris, is the first dedicated to Kertész’s carte postale prints; the accompanying catalogue has been shortlisted for Photography Catalogue of the Year in the 2021 Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards.
André Kertész: Postcards from Paris is on view at the High Museum of Art February 18–May 29, 2022.
