Today we’re finding out if this current Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (Batch A122) from Heaven Hill is headed in the right direction. While some of the previous incarnations have been bottled in the high 130’s-140’s, this one is a relatively tame 120.8 proof. Retail pricing for one is supposed to be $60 but consider yourself lucky to find them on shelves somewhere between $70-$110. While the standard 94 proof Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon uses whiskeys aged between 8 and 12 years old, these “Barrel Proof” bottlings are still age stated 12-year-old. The "Private Barrel" Barrel Proof (store picks) I've seen range from 8-11 years old but have been all over the map profile wise. So, if you're looking for Heaven Hill uniqueness, those may worth trying as well. Regardless of age, picks or proofs, all Elijah Craig bourbons are created using the same mash bill of 78% Corn, 10% Rye & 12% Barley. So do yourself a favor and find some of these A122’s while you can.
